Hit Me Down Sonny x
The Ting Tings
Ah, The Ting Tings (remember the uber-popular song “That’s Not
My Name?”); this dynamic duo is back with another banger!
The beat is so catchy and the lyrics are fun to sing! This
is a great workout or “getting ready” song. It will definitely have you
boogieing and singing in your mirror.
This track is a perfect exhibition of the musical maturity
that comes with having a hit and needing to prove yourself once again. The Ting
Tings will be well on their way back up the charts in no time with this catchy song.
Settle Down x Kimbra
Kimbra made her way into America’s hearts and homes with her feature on the Gotye song “Somebody That I Used To Know.” She made her way into MY heart with this R&B-Jazzy tune.
I AM OBSESSED with this song. So obsessed. Besides the fact
that I believe Kimbra is basically singing my life in this song (and in no way
am I saying that’s a good thing), I am continuously astounded by her vocal
talent.
It’s basically a song
about a girl who desperately wants her significant other to commit and is
afraid of losing him. As heavy as that sounds, the song is completely upbeat
and amazing and shows Kimbra’s ridiculous tight vocal jazz riffs.
Definitely worth a listen. Or, ya know, 12 listens...whatevs…
Cubism Dream x Local
Natives
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again. The band Local Natives
is amazing. Lately, I’ve been really loving their song “Cubism Dream.” It’s
beautiful, thoughtful and the melody is haunting. Lead singer Kelcey Ayers’
voice is soothing, smooth, and soulful.
This band just keeps
satisfying me with hit after hit, and I just found out that they’re back in the
studio. Can’t wait for album no. 2!
Also check out “Sun Hands” and “Who Knows Who Cares.”
Each Coming Night x Iron
& Wine
Such a thoughtful love song with beautiful lyrics. Some of you
might know this song from the “night swimming” Chevy commercial. I love that
the vocals have an almost “whispering” quality about them.
Make your life feel like a movie this weekend: use this song
as a soundtrack to your life. Listen to it while doing something pensive or
romantic. This is the perfect song to accompany writing a letter to a loved one,
waking up, or just relaxing and pondering life. It’s precious and I want this
song played at my wedding.
Iggy Azalea
While I am a complete lady, do I like to mix it up every now and then…
One of my favorite rappers right now is Iggy Azalea. Oh,
okay, I’ll admit it; for me, her appeal is much more related to her fashion
choices. She dresses like the quintessential, urban-influenced, nouveau -hipster
(Do I see a NYLON spread in her
future?).
Since making her big break in the States just a few short months
ago, this Aussie beauty has collected a lot of, well, haters. Despite abounding criticism in the hip hop community, it’s
undeniable: girl has a sick flow. Whoever
writes Iggy’s beats is out of CONTROL; they really bang.
With a stamp of approval from T.I., Iggy is on her way to
becoming a rap superstar. Or at least a fashion icon.
Check out “Murda Bizness” featuring T.I. or “Pu$$y” (video
below).
