Sex and the City: Uncovered

They say if you don't like something about your life, you have to fix it. That's exactly what I'm doing.

This summer, I'm on a quest of self discovery. I'm trying to decide what I like, what I'm willing to put up with from others, and most of all, who I am. I decided that there's no better way to do that, than to do a little soul-searching.

I'm currently reading Sex and the City Uncovered: Exposing the Emptiness and Healing the Hurt by Marian Jordan. My best friend gave it to me on my 20th birthday (attached with a beautiful card). She says that it changed her life, and I'm hoping that reading it will change mine as well.

The book is basically about finding God and ending the painful cycle of using "empty" placeholders (like alcohol, sex, and relationships) to quench your thirst for God.

So far, it's definitely served as a great point of reflection for me. I'm about a fourth of the way into the book, and I've definitely seen some key phrases and ideas that really jumped out and spoke to me.

The writer, Marian Jordan, has a really great way of helping explain solutions to young women's trials and tribulations by weaving in stories from some key episodes of Sex and the City and linking them to lessons from the Bible. I only hope that Jordan explains some ways to get closer to God later in the book. The advice is all well and good, but it won't help if there's no explanation or tips to building a stronger fellowship with Him.

I'm enjoying the book so far, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of it. I'm also looking for what book I should read next. A friend of mine recently lent me "Why Men Love B*tches." Quite a departure from this book, but it should be interesting, nonetheless!

What book should I read next? Are there any books that have helped you find yourself? Leave me a comment below!
